Let’s just say that my K31 scout rifle project got sidetracked quite quickly. (read the first part here)
In the first part of this series I mentioned not necessarily needing a shorter barrel and that I would simply use a standard K31 with the factory barrel length.
Well, Not long after I wrote part 1 of this series, I found a shortened K31 with a sporterized stock online for a good price. Talk about luck.
The new rifle
This solves two issues at once. First, I get a sporterized/hunting style stock and second I get a shorter barrel. Even comes with a backpacking sling (I’m not a fan of those so I’ll probably sell it).
For just a bit more expensive than a brand new stock, I got a stock, a sling and an entire rifle strapped to them. Talk about a deal.
The rifle had the sights painted with some sort of high visibility paint to be a bit clearer and faster to acquire, I think it was originally meant to be a stalking gun. It doesn’t really matter since I’m gonna install my scout scope mount on it.
The next steps
Now that I have the rifle and the scope mount, next on the list is, obviously, the scope. I gotta free up some funds for this so see you in a month or two probably.
Also I’ve decided to experiment a bit and try running a micro red dot on it, just for fun. I also want to try a scope + offset red dot combo.
Apart from my original plan, I also think I’ll get the rifle a cool Cerakote paintjob (maybe alpenflage 😉 ?)
Alright, see you soon for part 3 when I’ll get an actual working gun with a scope, it’s not really great to shoot with an empty picatinny rail as a rear sight.
